“I
promise to serve humanity through the gift of music, to broadcast
melodies that will remember only the good times from the past,
bring a smile to your face today, and help you create only
good memories for the future.”

Doorga.
Namaste,
I
have been dancing for 28 years (1980-2008), and teaching
for 18 years. I come from a lineage of infamous dancers
from the Caribbean. My first TV appearance was at the tender
age of 5 right here in Toronto, but it all began in Montreal.
Growing up in a French Canadian neighborhood with my brother
Amit, and the nearest West Indian community being one hour
away, my parents instilled values that made us aware of
their culture. I sang in the temple and performed for temple
shows, then began teaching dance for the Hindu Devotional
Society of Montreal for 10 years while going to college
and university. At 21 years old, I became the youngest committee
member and then the first female secretary for the society
which was predominantly male, and still remains the only
female ever to take that position.
I
then migrated to Toronto and Choreographed for SAMA Model
and talent agency for Bollywood Shows as well as the Ram
Mandir and later the Canadian Hindu Heritage Center. I continue
to teach privately under the name Doorga Entertainment.
I have also hosted a popular television show Calypso Hut
2 “In D Mix”, on CHEX TV Saturdays from 9-10
am, as well as a radio show, on WTOR 770 AM Saturdays from
2-3pm by the same name, “Shuga in D Mornin”
6am-8am Monday –Friday on Hot Shots Radio, and also
one of the columnists for the Hot Shots Paper. . I was also
the arts and entertainment columnist for Caribbean Feedback
Newspaper and now for Hot Shots Newspaper. I also MC for
major shows as well as Temple shows for The Shri Maha Kali
Amaa Mandir who I am presently assisting on a second documentary.
I also MC shows for the Shiv Narine Durga Mandir. I worked
with Nice Production Company to choreograph music videos
with East Indian Artistes.
By
tuning into Bounce FM on Carib 101 featuring the new program,
“Shuga in D Mornin” Saturdays from 9-10am,
I believe you too will be leading your family into a new
realm of entertainment, that generations fought so hard
to keep alive. You are giving your contribution to the customs
passed on and fulfilling your duty to your culture.
